  • Construction Overview Training - this is our comprehensive and practical introduction to construction. Here we will introduce attendees to multiple types of contracting principals, construction projects, roles and responsibilities, and an understanding of the processes required to make a project successful. Please note this course is intended to supplement your own onboarding and specific task training. For example, we teach how and why to job cost, not how to use JDE, HCSS, etc.

    We will teach about the roles of tradesmen, foreman, superintendent, field and project engineers, project managers, and home office management for a typical project. Our training focuses on real world contracting methods and experiences that include bidding and understanding a cost estimate, submittals and substitutions, schedules and time impact analysis, purchase orders and subcontracts, quantity tracking and job costing, change orders and claims, schedule of values and pay applications, and much more. We highlight the commercial aspect that every task on a construction projects must generate revenue and how it relates to cash flow.

    We have prepared a syllabus with a considerable amount of prepared reference material - definitions, examples, and flow diagrams. In an effort to enhance retention we leave space for attendees to take notes and populate their own future reference document.

    To help Attendees to stay engaged we do not allow any electronic devices in the training room, including phones, laptops, tablets, or smart watches. We take frequent and regular breaks throughout the training to allow those who need to stay connected to respond to phone calls or emails. We will have a dedicated attendant to ensure all possessions remain secure and monitor established telephone, text, and email address provided for emergency contact.

    Training is conducted regularly at the AC Hotel in Downtown St Louis, Missouri. Training begins at 1 pm on Monday, ends at noon of Friday, and runs 8 am to 5 pm Tuesday through Thursday. The cost of training includes lodging, all breakfasts and lunches, and snacks and beverages daily. Ride share and taxi service is available to and from STL - Lambert International Airport. A multitude of dining is available within walking distance of the hotel. At least one special event will be hosted each week.
